Danisley Jayson (Architectural Designer) Attends Onondaga Community College's "Girls Going Tech in Español" Event
On Wednesday October 18th, Onondaga Community College in partnership with Micron hosted a “Girls Going Tech in Español” event. The event was held to allow young women to come together to speak and learn in their first language. By speaking two languages, these girls are honing a very useful professional skill. This and other similar events are meant to give girls the opportunity to explore a STEM education and hopefully start a career path that leads to a bright future in STEM.
Danisley Jayson, Architectural Designer at Ashley McGraw Architects, was one of the featured professionals / “speed mentors” for the STEM event. They worked on STEM projects with groups of eighth-grade girls while speaking Spanish and celebrating their heritage.
With her first language as Spanish, Danisley shared her experience about yesterday’s event. “It was heartwarming to spend time answering questions about my professional path as a Cuban architect to a group of young girls in my native language. Keeping in touch with your roots, believing in yourself, constantly embracing challenges, enjoying learning, and always staying curious were some of the main lessons I tried to communicate to these girls. I hope we continue planting more STEM seeds, the future is promising. Gracias.”
